The Sheriff's Team of Active Retired
Seniors (S.T.A.R.S.) program was formed
in 1999. This group of volunteers was
created to provide a means for retired
persons to become active in the community
through positions in law enforcement.
The S.T.A.R.S. program benefits the
community by providing services that
have been lost over time and by providing
new services that would otherwise be
unavailable to the department.
The S.T.A.R.S. group is comprised of
adult citizens, 50 years of age or
greater, who are familiar with Yolo
County and interested in volunteering
their talents and life experience to
serve the public.
S.T.A.R.S. volunteers have assorted
tasks, many of which enable deputies
and
other departmental employees to better
perform
their duties. Some of the services
that the S.T.A.R.S. provide include
conducting daily home checks as part
of the
Vacation House Check Program, assisting
with
traffic control at accidents or emergencies,
maintaining the Community Resource/Mobile Command Unit and Patrol Vehicle
Maintenance program, along with other
tasks as needed by the department.
In addition, the S.TA.R.S. help in
providing extra patrol for school zones,
contact area shut-ins, assist with
the Neighborhood Watch Programs, and
will continue to be present at various
community events and meetings in Yolo
County.
If you are interested in become a
member, please contact the Sheriff’s
Operations Technician Jennifer Mott
at (530) 668-5280 and advise that
you would like to be a volunteer
for the
Sheriff. After you have filled out
an application and it has been reviewed,
you will then be contacted by a S.T.A.R.S.
member. All S.T.A.R.S. must attend
a training program in which they
receive the information and skills
they will
use to perform their duties as department
volunteers.
